A social media campaign since the beginning of May to highlight the reasons WHY plastic pollution is bad for the environment as well as provide ‘safety nets’ (guideline, 5 ‘R’s’) for people to take tangible steps toward changing their behaviour when it comes to single-plastic use. By collaborating with local environmental groups, like Beat Plastic Pollution/Thant Myanmar and big corporations such as Carlsberg Myanmar and City Mart, the team worked to produce an informational poster, “Need that plastic bag?”, on how to reduce plastic bag waste in the local context. Partnering with City Mart Holding, the main event hosted by Conyat Create was a hot seat panel discussion featuring 8 panelists from various sectors who all work with plastics. From the food and beverage industry, to advocates for reusing products and bamboo straw suppliers, the intention of the panel was to talk more specifically about the opportunities and challenges around the topic of beating plastic pollution as well as the importance of collaboration and key initiatives that can be promoted in Myanmar.
